The Objectives in creating the Evangelical Catholic Study Bible
FIRST: To create a Catholic Study Bible from the best and most accurate Bible translation in the world, which could be understood by today’s reader and whose notes and amplifications would aid the reader in catching the full meaning of the sacred text as well as the often unexpressed implications of the assertions of Holy Scripture. These aids have made even more obvious that the Catholic faith is everywhere without exception the faith of Scripture, and has done so, we believe, in the most compelling and understandable way, especially to our Protestant brethren.
Amplifications and notes have thus been placed in the text itself, not at the bottom of the page, for the convenience of the reader.
SECOND: To provide the necessary visual and textual aids and detailed chronological charts to enable the reader to integrate the books of literature and the prophets into the flow of the historical record of Scripture. We felt that when reading the historical record one should have the means to immediately see how the sacred literature, poetry and the prophetic ministries and messages fit into that flow.
Chapters in Jeremiah and Ezekiel, which are out of chronological order, thus are chronologically chain linked so the reader can read them through in proper order and can relate its message to the important historical events of their times.
THIRD: To take head-on the multitude the incredibly absurd and destructive liberal textual interpretations rampant in the NAB Catholic Study Bible, as well as the entire system of “higher textual criticism” which has struck at the heart of the integrity of Scriptures and destroyed the faith of so many.
To present to the reader the massive amount of evidence for the miraculous nature of the biblical text including its whole string of divine promises and predictive prophesies most of which have been proven authentic predictions by the internal witness of Scripture itself and whose fulfillments, in addition, have been demonstrated by independent historical records.
This includes a great amount of internal testimony to Daniel’s predictive authenticity in Sirach, Isaiah, Micah, Ezekiel, Baruch, and Zechariah and overwhelming evidence for the unity of Isaiah, the early Gospel of Matthew etc. etc. etc. In addition, much internal evidence of the amazing preservation of the original ancient texts by its handlers is highlighted, as for example, the way Moses merely added explanatory notes to the Genesis records rather than altering the ancient text itself. The same choice to add rather than alter was done by Samuel in his record, by Jeremiah with the Kings, and by Ezra with the Chronicles.
FOURTH: To present to the reader the incredible insight provided by the Valtorta revelations on the superiority of the New Testament manuscripts used by Jerome in his Latin translation over all the later translations and especially all the modern translations today which used the reductionist texts represented by Vaticanus and Sinaticus. Those revelations give clear evidence that the original writers themselves revised and added materials to their works in succeeding editions and for that very reason these later editions became the “received texts.” This of course also created a divergence of legitimate textual readings not corruptions of unknown copyists as is assumed by modern scholars. The reductionist texts represented a much later attempt to create a uniform text for the Church by attempting to determine the first edition readings and thus it became at that time (and thankfully so!) a failed effort. The appended texts were of course the improved texts all of which Jerome knew and used, many of which are no longer available to us today.
FIFTH: To present a number of the latest ground breaking insights and discoveries that have validated several extremely significant contested matters in Scripture. The following are just a few.
1. The proof that Genesis was written entirely by those who actually lived the events beginning with Adam himself. This is based on P. J. Wiseman’s New Discoveries in Babylonia about Genesis. That “These are the generations of” are to be read “these are the histories of.”
2. The discovery of an abundance of evidence that Joseph not only left an indelible mark in Egyptian history but was in fact the legendary Imhotep of the so-called “3rd Dynasty.” The assumption that the Manetho records and listings were chronological kept anyone until more recently from asserting the connection of Imhotep to Joseph. But now that the Manetho numbering of dynasties is recognized as having no relationship to their actual chronological order this evidence finally is being brought forth.
3. The evidence that Moses was none other than Thutmose II, just as Josephus claimed, is now also proven, since the Exodus itself can be proven to have ended the 18th dynasty, not during the reign of Pharaoh Rameses of the 19th Dynasty. There is a mountain of corroborating evidence for this identification of Moses, for His “mother” queen Hapshepsut, for “king” Tut the eldest son of Amenhotep III dying in the 10th plague and for the drowning of his father in the Gulf of Aqaba. 4. Included also is the incredible abundance of new evidence that Mt. Sinai was in Arabia as claimed by Paul in Galatians not in the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula, and that the Red Sea crossing was across the underwater land bridge in the Gulf of Aqaba, with a gentle enough slope to make safe entry and exit with yet plenty of water to drown the Egyptian army. Besides fossilized 18th dynasty chariot wheels in the gulf, the entire camp of the Israelites, even the blackened peak of Mt. Horeb has been left preserved to this day in Arabia. 5. Now that the Ptolemy canon on which the whole structure of ancient history was hung and wrenched completely out of joint has been thoroughly discredited, the chronological record of the kings of Israel and Judah has now finally been left to speak for itself. And suddenly the “mystery numbers” of that record yield a perfect harmony just as Ivan Panin had insisted in the 1920’s! The kings are now precisely dated eliminating half of the co-regencies introduced by Edwin Thiele. A whole string of other “biblical chronological problems” now have vanished in thin air! Serious errors in the consensus chronology for the Neo-Babylonian and Persian era have now been eliminated. The Persian king of Queen Esther has been properly identified. These corrections have been long overdue since the Ptolemy canon had not only been challenged in Ptolemy’s time by other more ancient records but by very clear internal biblical evidence dating back to 446 BC and additionally by its unbroken chronology from the beginning of history to the very time of Christ!
6. Based on the extensive research of Damien Mackey of the California Institute for Ancient Studies the needed textual corrections have been made to the Books of Judith and Tobit. Suddenly these records now fit perfectly into biblical history in the Assyrian era with numerous corroborating tie-ins to the other books of Scripture! And suddenly Job also becomes someone you know a whole lot more about than you ever thought!
7. Finally the “69 weeks” of Daniel comes into focus as the accurate prophecy it was meant to be predicting the precise year of the coming of Messiah.
8. The seven Seals of Revelation are revealed as predictive prophecies of the period from John through the spiritual conquest of Rome; the Trumpet judgments, of the barbarian and Mohammedan material overthrow of Roman civilization; Ch. 10-11, of the divine reproof to the Church by the “Reformation” to the Marian age in the mid 1800’s; Chapter 12, of the mid 1800’s through our day; and Chapters 13-21, for the very near future.
9. The Bible is also fully keyed to the Macmillan Bible Atlas with its 264 maps.
10 And the Gospels are all keyed to the Valtorta Revelations with notes fully resolving a number of serious challenges made by skeptics to the Gospel texts some of which have utterly defied explanation, as the separate visits of the women to a closed and guarded tomb on a dark early Sunday morning, the denials of Peter, and the “second first Sabbath” of Luke 6:1.
